Steven R. Duhl graduated from the University of Florida School of Law (J.D. with Honors) in 1983 and has lived and worked in Palm Beach County ever since. Twenty-nine years before graduation, he was born in Queens, New York.
Leticia (Letty), Steve’s wife, has worked with him for the past 20 years (though it seems to her to have been much longer). She was born in Mexico and in addition to being fluent in Spanish, her English is better than his.
Duhl graduated from Corona Ave. School (nka James Denver Elementary School) in 1966. His mother, Doris, taught at the school; first as a substitute (“don’t call me Ma”) and then as a full-time teacher. His father worked in Manhattan in the clothing industry and his mother forbade him from wearing blue jeans to school. (This would’ve embarrassed Doris, for reasons Duhl is unable to explain).
Steve has one sister, Joanne, who received her Masters Degree from Harvard. She works in Vermont as an adviser to the charitable rich (helping to fund educational programs).
Duhl’s older kid, Yvette, works in insurance underwriting. His younger kid, Aryanna, is in college (and is our website developer). Yvette’s son, his only grandchild, Eli, is in elementary school and is allowed to wear blue jeans.
Steven Duhl spent two years at the University of Colorado before getting his BA degree (with a major in economics) from the State University of New York system (SUNY New Paltz). He then sold computers (1970s non-operational $100,000 mini-computers) in slightly upstate New York and Volkswagens in Queens, NY before moving down to Gainesville to begin law school.
Since graduating from the University of Florida, Duhl has worked for a Palm Beach law firm (Levy, Shapiro, Kneen, & Kingcade), the Palm Beach County Public Defender’s Office, for himself as a solo practitioner, and a law firm he founded (Alexander, Dambra, & Duhl). He now is back to working as a solo practitioner still in Palm Beach County.
He has appeared in courts in Palm Beach, Martin, Okeechobee, Broward, Dade, Hendry, Volusia, Seminole, and Hillsborough Counties. He has been practicing Criminal Defense for 32 years, Bankruptcy for 30, Divorce for 30, and Civil Litigation for 28. He has represented clients in hundreds of cases through settlement or trial.
